Issues For A Church Essay Contest For ChildrenAs an admission, I am somewhat of a 'mystery shopper' type when it comes to church essay contests for children. I often wonder if the essays are actually fair and whether or not they measure up to the standard set by adults. For instance, I have read many 'question and answer' type essays about being a kid and about what it was like to grow up in the church. One such essay I read recently from a child was about being a teenager in the church, a situation that I would normally think of as the perfect situation for a child to find themselves in.When I read that question and answer essay contest for children, I had a feeling that some of the questions may be somewhat over the top. Still, even with these thoughts, I still took the time to read on. Here is what I found...Some topics that are part of the modern age and that many people in the churches struggle with are the same topics that I struggled with in high school. Especially, when it co mes to issues such as sexuality, gender issues, sex, and any other issues that were thrown around back then. I feel that many church essay contests for children may give kids what they want and that is a discussion about those subjects.However, the church essay contest for children only gives them a limited number of topics. In other words, a child who can't think for themselves may be better off to look at a book instead of an essay contest for children. You never know what you will find when you look at a book instead of an essay.They also are not always 'all good.' Sometimes topics such as pop culture and politics fall into the category of what some may consider 'not so hot.'Still, I believe that there are some topics that are pretty good. For instance, I believe that sex education is something that should be taught to every child. I also believe that the marriage ceremony should be both sacred.In fact, there is a very controversial topic that is best addressed in a place where i t is not open to the public. If your church does have an essay contest for children, please do not get offended if you don't see it posted to the church website because I am sure it is very legitimate.My conclusion with the topic of church essay contests for children is this... be careful. Sure, they may give you the opportunity to share your views on what is hot or not in the 'in-crowd,' but there is much more to a child than just that. In fact, if you don't think they are ready for the subject matter, then it may not be a good fit for them.
